Edit your Campaign

You can edit pending, active, or paused campaigns anytime. Editing happens on the campaign settings page, so the cards and structure are identical whether you are building a campaign or changing an already live one.

Changes that don't affect your campaign content will apply immediately. This includes:

  • Budget
  • Date range (e.g., adding an end date)
  • Adding or removing an audience
  • Removing or pausing an ad

There will be a delay if your changes need to be reviewed for content. This includes:

  • Adding new ads to your campaign
  • Editing your ad's landing page

Changes will appear as pending and will be reviewed within one business day of submission.

How to edit your campaign

  • Log in to AdRoll and navigate to Campaigns on the left side menu.
  • Find the campaign you want to adjust. You can use Group By: Objective under the campaign filters to narrow the list.
  • Select the ellipsis next to the campaign name and choose Edit.
  • Make your edits and select Save.

Edit options

You will have the option to edit the following areas under Campaign Settings and Ad Group Settings. Because settings are grouped into collapsible cards, each collapsed card shows its current value on the right, so you can review the whole campaign before opening anything.

Campaign Settings

  • Campaign Name
  • Objective — Build Awareness, Drive Engagement, or Maximize Conversions
  • Channel — Web or Connected TV. Channel affects which ad sources are available in the Ads section.
  • Schedule
    • Start and End dates for the campaign. Campaigns use UTC and may take up to 48 hours to review before going live.
    • Dayparting (Advanced Options) — You can use dayparting to select specific days of the week that you want your ads to serve (or not to serve), or specific times of day. To learn more, check out Dayparting Your Campaign.
  • Bid Settings and Advanced Options
    • Optimization Goal — Set for you by the campaign objective, and labeled Recommended. Build Awareness optimizes for impressions, Drive Engagement for clicks, and Maximize Conversions for conversions. You can override the default.
    • Bid Strategy — Choose between letting the system optimize automatically within your budget, or setting a specific target to control your bids. The default depends on your objective: Automatic Target CPM for Build Awareness, Automatically maximize CPC for Drive Engagement, and Automatically maximize CPA for Maximize Conversions. To learn more, check out Bid Strategies.
    • Frequency Capping (Advanced Options) — Frequency Capping refers to the number of times your ads appear to the same person in one day from an AdRoll campaign. To learn more, check out Adjusting Frequency Caps.
    • Exclusions (Advanced Options) — Suppress specific audiences from the campaign.
  • Campaign Budget
    • Daily
    • Monthly
Note: Applying frequency caps is not recommended as it will restrict our partner Ad Exchanges from showing your ads to the users, subsequently affecting the performance of the campaigns.

Ad Group Settings

  • Ad Group Name
  • Ad Group Schedule — Select Use custom ad group schedule if you want this ad group to run on a different schedule than your campaign.
  • Targeting
    • Audience — What you can edit depends on your objective. For Build Awareness, switch between Lookalike and Third Party Audience. For Drive Engagement and Maximize Conversions, use Choose to add existing audiences or Create to build a new one. To suppress an audience, see Exclude a Conversion Audience.
    • Locations — Select Automatic to let AdRoll target the best locations, or Manual to choose your own. With Manual selected, use the Include / Exclude control on each location you enter. To learn more, check out Setting Location Parameters (Geotargets).
    • Contextual Categories & Keywords — Select All content to automatically show ads where people are likely to engage, or Specific content to target categories and keywords you choose. Under Specific content you can edit Target Categories and Target Keywords, and use Brand safety and suitability > Exclude Keywords to block unwanted content.
    • Environments — By default, all devices (Desktop, Mobile Web, Mobile App) will be included to ensure maximum reach. If you wish to exclude any device, select Manual under Environments and exclude it.
  • Ads — You can Choose, Create, Upload, or Request Free Ads. Available options vary by channel; Connected TV offers Choose and Upload only.
    • Choose — Select ads present in your Ad Library.
    • Create — Create custom ads using our easy-to-use tool. You can create Native Ads and Dynamic Ads (if the option is enabled). AI templates are also available to generate an ad for you.
    • Upload — Upload finished ads directly to the campaign.
    • Request Free Ads — You are entitled to place a free ad request every 90 days. To learn more, check out Get Free Ads.

Relaunch completed campaigns

If your campaign is completed, it will show up as ended. You may reschedule a completed campaign by updating the End date, shown below. Once you save this campaign, it will automatically be set to live.

You can also set a custom schedule for each ad group by selecting Use custom ad group schedule, so the ad group runs on a different schedule from the main campaign.

Or use the Save and Pause option and resume the campaign when needed.

Rejected campaigns

Rejected campaigns cannot be edited. Instead, launch a new campaign with your revisions.
