CRM Segments

Creating a CRM segment with your prepared .CSV email list

  1. Navigate to Audience from your dashboard.

  2. Click Segment Visitors.

  3. Name your segment where prompted. It may be helpful to include “CRM” in your segment name so it is easy to identify when you want to apply it to your campaigns.

  4. Under Type, select CRM Emails.

  5. Your options will change and a button will appear that prompts you to Choose File. Click this button and select your CRM file from your computer. Formatting requirements for your CRM file can be found below.

  6. Save

Once saved, your new CRM segment will appear in the Visitor Data tab and can be targeted in both web and Facebook campaigns. Learn more about how we turn your email lists into targetable audience segments.


How do I format my email list?

Your CRM file needs to be formatted correctly or your list will not match correctly.

  • File must be formatted as .CSV

  • List must contain at least 100 unique user emails.

  • All emails must be listed in a single column. Do not list any information other than the emails you would like to match.

  • Remove any empty rows.

  • Maximum file size: 10MB


Best Practices

Below we outline some tips and considerations to take when preparing your lists for CRM data onboarding.

  • Use personal emails if possible. Work emails have a lower match rate.

  • Make sure your email database is up to date—adding an email validation step during signup workflows can be very helpful to make sure that users are supplying active emails.

  • Consider combining CRM segments with other types of segments to boost performance. Remember, the larger the audience your campaign has, the more optimization we can perform!

  • For our Managed accounts, when uploading a CRM file you can use phone numbers (either mobile or home numbers) along side of email addresses or stand alone. If using phone numbers and emails together - list all email addresses as your first column and phone numbers as your second column. Both emails and phone numbers should be listed vertically in two single columns. Example: emails in column A and phone numbers in column B. To do this request a LiveRamp Connect account through your Account Manager. 

Additional considerations

  • For US advertisers, CRM can be launched on both web and Facebook. Where possible, we recommend using US-based email addresses and they match at a higher rate than non-US emails.

  • Outside of the US, CRM segments have limited functionality on web campaigns. We are working on building this functionality, but we recommend that non-US advertisers adopt CRM retargeting on Facebook instead.

  • CRM segments cannot be edited after they are created. Total visitors reflects the number of emails contained in your email list.

  • The cookie matching process can take up to a week at most, depending on the size of your email list. Make sure you take this into consideration when planning your CRM campaign.
