About Custom Metrics
This feature enables you to formulate and save your own custom metrics. You can tailor the Cross-Channel Attribution dashboard to best fit your needs and eliminate the need to maintain custom formulas in spreadsheets or other reporting platforms. As a result, you have more control over the data you analyze and report on.
Use custom metrics to:
- Customize your analysis: You can create custom metrics to perform analyses that are tailored to how your business measures and tracks success.
- Streamline your workflow: Connect your accounts to consolidate your data. Create a custom metric to analyze your data without having to export it from any platform.
How to create a new custom metric
Creating and saving a new custom metric takes less than a minute.
- Navigate to the Cross-Channel Attribution dashboard
- Click the ‘Customize’ button
- Click on the ‘Create a custom metric’ to open the modal with the builder
- Fill the custom metric creation form to build the new formula:
- Metric Name: Name the metric so you can identify it when you add it to the table
- Format: Select the format of the metric depending on what you are calculating. Choose between numeric, percentage and currency formats in the dropdown..
- Metric description: Write a description for your metric. This step is optional, but recommended. This is going to help your team stay aligned on the definition of this metric.
- Build the new metric using the available metrics and the operators: Select the pre-defined metrics from the dropdown and the type of calculation you want to perform on metrics in the formula, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
- Click Create metric to finish.
Once you create a new custom metric, you will find it at the top of the
Tips when you create a new metric:
- You need to ensure that all formulas follow a mathematical order from left to right, starting with brackets, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction
- You cannot place two operators right next to each other
- You need to have an operator between all the metrics
- You cannot use the parenthesis symbol after a number or another parenthesis
- The limit for descriptions is 120 character
How to edit a custom metric
Click on the edit icon next to the metric name. This action will allow you to edit and save the refreshed formula for this metric.
Tip: AdRoll will keep track of these changes and you will be able to find the date and the user that made the edit in the change log.
How to delete a custom metric
If you no longer need a custom metric, you can delete it by clicking on the trash icon. You will be first asked to verify that you want to delete the metric. Once you proceed, this action cannot be changed.
