Restricted Content and Practices: Political Content

Political and election-related ads, landing pages, and websites are restricted on AdRoll due to legal requirements and publisher suitability.

Election advertising is restricted to US organizations that can provide a FEC ID, state registration or ID number (if applicable), or an EIN. Additionally, advertisers must comply with all applicable laws, such as mandatory advertising disclosures.

Other types of political advertising content are subject to the advertising policies listed below.

How to Fix Disapproved Ads 

If you received an email with any of the following advertising policy violations, please follow the recommended solutions listed below.

Ad Creative Violations

  1. Read the policies listed below to learn more about the types of political content that we do not allow on ad creatives.
  2. Upload new ad creatives that contain compliant content.
    • Make sure that your new ads are added to the campaign(s) that you want to launch. This will automatically trigger the new ads into In Review.

Landing Page Violations

  1. Read the policies listed below to learn more about the types of political content that we do not allow on landing pages.
  2. Remove non-compliant content from the landing page that you wish to use as your destination URL.
    • Reach out to the AdRoll Customer Support team once the updates to your landing page have been made to request a re-review. 
  3. If you’re not able to remove non-compliant content, change your destination URL to drive your target audience to landing pages with compliant content.
    • Once you update your destination URL, your ads will automatically trigger into In Review.

Location Targeting Violations

Political Advertising Restriction: Location Targeting

If you received this ad policy violation it means that your campaign(s) is either targeting all locations (default setting) or you’ve included a location outside of the United States (US).

  1. Go to the associated ad campaign and click the Edit button at the top right.
  2. Go into the AdGroup settings. The widget section will be titled “Configure [Campaign Name]”
  3. Scroll down to the Locations section and make the necessary changes.
  4. Click Done, then click Save. You will need to reach out to your Account Manager or AdRoll customer support to request a re-review.

Suspended Advertiser Profile - Political/Election Content

If you received a suspension email related to Political/Election Content, it means that we have determined that the content on your website cannot be advertised. Please review the policies listed below for more information. To speak with a member of our team, reach out to your account manager or contact AdRoll Customer Support.

Election Content 

Note: Election advertising is only available to US organizations that have completed AdRoll’s verification process. Contact AdRoll Customer Support to complete your verification.

The following is not allowed:

Ex.png Election campaigns for non-US candidates

Ex.png Derogatory, violent, or hateful content

Ex.png Political misinformation or the promotion of any disinformation

Ex.png  Political committee websites without the required disclaimer notice

Ex.png  Ads, landing pages, or websites that promote extreme political agendas

Ex.png  Ads, landing pages, or websites that contain false or misleading information about the election process or that attempt to discourage people from voting

Ex.png  Ads, landing pages, or websites with provoking messaging 

Ex.png  Ads without the necessary disclosure that identifies who paid for the ad

Ex.png  Ads that do not adhere to the requirements of local laws (e.g. ballot measure restrictions)

Ex.png  Ads and landing pages that ask for information about anyone's political affiliation without obtaining explicit consent 

Other Types of Political Content

Advertising products, services, or information related to political and election content are subject to restrictions.

Ex.png Ads, landing pages, or websites that promote extreme political agendas

Ex.png Ads, landing pages, or websites that contain false or misleading information about the election process or that attempt to discourage people from voting

Ex.png Ads or landing pages that focus on an individual candidate or politician in a negative light

Ex.png Ads or landing pages that use negative messaging against any third party, individual, group, organization, or ideology

Ex.png Ads, landing pages, or websites with provoking or inappropriate messaging 

Ex.png Ads, landing pages, or websites that highlight controversial political issues for commercial purposes

Ex.png Ads and landing pages that ask for information about anyone's political affiliation without obtaining explicit consent 

Restricted

⚠️  Ads, landing pages, or websites that promote any political advocacy (e.g., political interests, political affiliations, or political groups)
