Native Web Ads Format Guidelines

Optimization Checklist: 9 essential web ad sizes

For web campaigns, we recommend using a minimum of 9 sizes: 6 Static and 3 Native:

  • 6 Static Image Web Ad Sizes: 300x250, 320x50, 728x90, 160x600, 300x600, and 970x250. Learn more in our Static Ads article.
  • 3 Native Static Image Web Ads: 600x500, 600x600, and 600x315.

These are an essential part of every campaign to run display ads on virtually every website and app, while other ad types aren't as widely accessible. That means more opportunities to connect with your audience wherever they spend time online.

Native Web Ads appear as a part of the design of the web page they’re on. They can appear as recommended content on a website or app, in-feed content, or promoted listings. Rather than standing out as an ad, native ads tend to have an editorial look and feel, with a softer selling approach. For example, they can appear as recommended content on news sites. These ads have a 9% higher lift for brand affinity and a 18% higher purchase intent compared to regular banner ads.

Additional Considerations

  • Publishers have editorial discretion for native ads on their websites. They can choose to resize your images or hide/truncate your descriptions to ensure consistency with their website.
  • Native Ad images should not contain any text. Text can get cropped or not appear in certain placements, which won't deliver an effective ad experience.
  • Third-party ad tags are not supported.

Upload Native Ads

You can upload ads either through your Ad Library or during campaign creation. When uploading any image, our system will automatically create ads (copies) for all appropriate ad placements.

From the Ads Library:

  • Navigate to your Creative > Ad Library, and click Upload on the top right.
  • Either browse or drag and drop the image you’d like to add to AdRoll.
  • On the next screen, edit or enter text into the fields on the left.  Different fields will display for different ad types. If a required field is left blank, clicking upload will highlight the required fields.
  • Click upload to add the new ads to your library.

From a Campaign:

  • Create a New Campaign or Edit an Existing Campaign.
  • When you get to the Ads step under Campaign Settings, click Upload.
  • Drag and drop any pre-created native ads into the drop-zone.
  • Edit the details as needed and preview the ads on the right.
  • Click Upload.
  • Review and Launch a new campaign, or Save an existing campaign.
