Essential Ad Sizes for Maximum Reach and Performance

To ensure your campaigns have the best possible reach across our network of publishers, AdRoll monitors the creative assets uploaded to your campaigns and recipes. If your campaign is missing key ad sizes that are essential for performance, you will see a "Missing Ad Size" alert at the top of your dashboard.

This alert isn’t just a suggestion; it’s there to ensure you aren't missing out on high-traffic placements and missing optimal campaign performance.

Why am I seeing this error?

Our system checks your campaign type (Web, Facebook, or Instagram) against a specific list of Format IDs. If even one of these recommended sizes is missing, the alert will trigger to help you maximize your inventory coverage.

How does this work

  • Evaluation Level: Each ad group is evaluated separately to identify which recommended sizes are missing.
  • Alert Surfacing: While the check happens at the ad group level, the alert surfaces at both the campaign and ad group levels if any single ad group is missing sizes.
  • Campaign Impact: If at least one ad group in a campaign is missing sizes, the entire campaign will trigger the "Missing Ad Sizes" alert.
  • No "Averaging" Out: Having other ad groups in the same campaign that contain all sizes will not prevent the alert from appearing if one ad group is still incomplete.

Required Sizes by Campaign Type

600x500 (Native), 600x600 (Native), 600x315 (Native)

Facebook 600x315, 1200x628
Instagram 600x600, 1200x1200

Breakdown by Channel

Different channels have different "sweet spots" for inventory. Here is the specific logic the dashboard uses to validate your creative library:

Web Campaigns

For web campaigns, we recommend using a minimum of 9 sizes: 6 Static Image and 3 Native. These are an essential part of every campaign to run display ads on virtually every website and app, while other ad types aren't as widely accessible. That means more opportunities to connect with your audience wherever they spend time online.

Facebook Campaigns

Facebook relies heavily on "Page Post" and Native styles. To clear the alert, ensure you have these landscape formats:

  • 600x315 and 1200x628.

Instagram Campaigns

Instagram is a visual-first platform that prioritizes square formats. To clear the alert, ensure you have:

  • 600x600 and 1200x1200.

How to Fix the Alert

  • Identify Affected Campaigns: Click Show on the dashboard alert to see a list of specific campaigns missing assets.

  • Wait for Validation: Once the assets are uploaded and assigned, the alert will automatically disappear.

💡Pro Tip:While you can run a campaign with only one ad size, we strongly recommend uploading the full suite. More sizes = more opportunities for our AI to find your customers at the lowest possible cost.
