If you’re running CTV campaigns with AdRoll and want to exclude a specific app from serving your ads, you’ll need to block that app using its platform-specific app ID. Because CTV apps exist across multiple platforms (like Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and more), each platform assigns its own unique app ID. To fully block an app, you must add the correct ID for each platform where the app is available.
Why Do I Need to Block Multiple IDs?
Unlike websites, which use a single domain, CTV apps are distributed through different device app stores. Each store assigns its own unique identifier, such as:
- A numeric Apple App Store ID
- An Android package name (e.g., com.appname)
- A Roku channel ID
- An Amazon ASIN
These IDs are persistent and platform-specific. To ensure your ads don’t run on a specific CTV app, you must block each version of the app individually.
How to Set Up Campaign-Specific CTV Exclusions
If you’ve already served impressions on a CTV app that you wish to exclude, you can set up your campaign-specific exclusions directly from the Apps report. This method ensures that all available app IDs associated with the app are automatically excluded from your campaign targeting. Follow these steps:
- Log in to AdRoll and navigate to Campaigns on the left side menu.
- On the CTV page, find the campaign you want to adjust.
- Click on the campaign name to navigate to the campaign-specific reporting page.
- Click on the Apps reporting tab.
- Find the CTV app you wish to block from your campaign targeting.
- Click on the ellipses and click Exclude App.
- A confirmation message will appear, and all app IDs available at the time will be automatically excluded.
If you want to exclude apps from your campaign targeting before you launch a campaign, follow these steps:
- From the Campaigns page, click on the Create button and select Ad Campaign
- Choose the campaign strategy you want to achieve your marketing goals
- Select CTV as the Channel
- Under Choose Connected TV Settings, click Advanced Options
- Under Exclusions, click on +Add campaign-specific exclusions
- Enter the app IDs associated with the CTV apps you do not wish to target (one per line)
- It is important to block a CTV app fully; you must add all app IDs associated with that app across supported CTV platforms (for example, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV).
- Click Save
