In order to ensure that we don’t allow discrimination on our platform, we restrict demographic targeting for specific ad categories that could have a discriminatory impact. These include ad campaigns for employment, housing, and financial services such as banking or mortgages.
If you want to launch a campaigns under one of these categories you will not be able to target
audiences based on demographic characteristics such as age, gender, income, or education level.
Creating Third Party Audiences
When creating a new Third Party Audience you must confirm whether your ads promote housing, employment, or financial services or products.
Certain audience segments will be unavailable to use in campaigns promoting these categories, per U.S. law.
In Facebook Campaigns and Recipes
To comply with Facebook's policies and to prevent discrimination, we restrict demographic targeting for ad categories that could have a discriminatory impact. This includes campaigns related to:
- Employment
- Housing
- Financial services (Insurance, bank accounts, investment services and payment services)
Ads in these categories cannot be targeted based on age demographics, age, gender, income, or education level.
We review your account to determine if your ads fall into any of these restricted categories. If we identify that your account promotes housing, employment, or financial services, you will receive a notification in the Audiences section of your Facebook campaign.
If you think your campaign was miscategorized you may submit an appeal here by selecting Issue > Special Ad Appeal in the drop-down menu:
Our policy team will review your appeal and, if found miscategorized, will change this for you.
