Contextual Category Optimizations recommend new targeting categories based on your campaign’s performance data and content analysis. These recommendations help refine or expand your targeting strategy by identifying additional contextual categories where your ads are most likely to perform well.
Recommendation Process
The AI Assistant evaluates campaign signals such as engagement, delivery trends, and contextual alignment to identify categories that could improve campaign performance.
When enough data is available and the system detects a clear opportunity, the Assistant surfaces recommendations as starter prompts in the AI-insights panel or within the Assistant chat.
If a recommendation is available, you can click the prompt to view:
- Which campaigns the recommendations apply to
- The suggested categories and subcategories
- The estimated improvement percentage
You can ask follow-up questions in chat to learn more about the recommendation or the reasoning behind it.
Applying Recommendations
- Click through the prompt to Edit Campaign Contextual Categories.
- Review the ad groups where new categories are suggested. Uncheck any ad groups you want to leave unchanged.
- Hover over a category to view its related subcategories.
- Once ready, click Continue with Ad Groups.
The Assistant will apply the changes to your campaign’s ad groups and confirm once complete. You can then undo changes directly from the Assistant chat or navigate to your campaign to review the updates.
Reverting Changes
You can revert contextual category changes in one of two ways:
Method 1: Use the Assistant Chat
- Select the “Undo” follow-up prompt directly in the Assistant chat.
- When you select the Undo prompt, the Assistant will display the remaining categories currently targeted in the selected ad groups.
- From this view, you can confirm your targeting strategy and click Revert Contextual Categories to finalize.
Once complete, you’ll receive a confirmation message in the Assistant chat. You can also navigate to your campaign to verify the updates.
Method 2: Manual Reversion
- Navigate to your campaign’s ad group settings and manually remove the categories.
Monitoring Performance
After applying contextual category optimizations, allow some time for your campaigns to begin serving impressions in the newly added categories. You can track overall campaign performance from your Campaigns tab.
As the system continues to gather data, the AI Assistant may surface additional optimization opportunities for the same campaign, such as new contextual categories or other recommendation types, based on updated performance signals.
Additional Notes
- Contextual Category Optimizations appear only when enough campaign data is available for the model to make confident recommendations.
- If no opportunity is detected, no recommendation will appear.
- This feature is currently available for active campaigns already targeting contextual categories.
