In addition to tracking Contacts collected from your site via the Pixel, you can bring over your contacts to AdRoll by uploading a CSV file.
Importing a CSV Contact List
- Log in to AdRoll and navigate to Audiences > Contacts and click Ad Contacts.
- Select a .csv file consisting of more than 100 unique email addresses so that we are more likely to provide cookie matches.
Your CSV File
- Must include 100 unique emails.
- It can include as many rows of emails as needed.
- You can append additional custom fields to the contacts you upload to AdRoll as additional columns. These can be traits about the contact collected in form submissions or any value you attributed to your contacts such as loyalty number, VIP status, or anything else.
- In the next step you will organize your contacts by selecting from:
- Create New List to add contacts to a brand new list
- Auto Lists > Global Unsubscribers to add contacts to your unsubscribers.
- Select an existing list under My Lists to add to contacts to an existing list.
- Next, you will Match the column labels in your CSV file to the corresponding Contact Information Fields. If your label doesn't match any of the default fields, you can create a custom field by typing it out in the search box and clicking Create New Field.
- In the review screen, you can make last minute changes or click Complete Import when you're finished.
Contact Information Fields: Supported Data Types
When creating a new Contact Information Field in AdRoll you must specify its data type.
Contact Information fields are additional contact data points collected in form submissions or any value you attribute to your contacts such as loyalty number, VIP status, or anything else.
The data type serves two purposes:
- To help you keep your data clean by validating the data that you upload to AdRoll against the specified data type
- To harness the power of your custom fields as criteria when building lists.
Data Type | Description | Example value |
---|---|---|
String | Any sequence of characters including spaces and punctuation. It represents plain text | Platinum level |
Numeric |

100 100.0 |
Boolean | The boolean data type can only represent two values: true or false |
true false |
Date | Any date-time value |
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS |
