Introduction to Automated Campaigns

Automated Campaigns share one overall budget to prioritize the best-performing campaigns and ad space. Automated Campaigns’ performance is based on the goal that you choose when you set up your campaigns, such as a $3 CPC.

How to Set Up Automated Campaigns

Note: These are instructions for new AdRoll customers. If you are already running with AdRoll, please go here to find out how to migrate your current campaigns to Automated Campaigns.

      1. Sign up or sign in. If you're signing up for the first time, you'll automatically be taken to the campaign creation page. If you're a returning AdRoll customer, navigate to Create a New Campaign.
      2. Once you're on your campaign creation page, Request or Upload ads.

      3. Click Get Started.
      4. Let us know your monthly traffic – either by entering it manually or connect to your Google Analytics – so we can recommend an effective budget for your audience. If you connect to Google Analytics, we can view your monthly traffic and conversion audiences from URL Goals in Google Analytics.

      5. Choose your inventory sources, schedule, budget, and performance goal. We recommend running on all three inventory sources to maximize performance.

      6. Upload your ads. We recommend at least one of each these web ad sizes: 160x600, 300x250, 300x600, 320x50, 728x90, 970x250, 600x500, 600x315 and Facebook ad sizes: 600x315, 600x600 (Instagram).

      7. If you uploaded a Facebook ad, enter the required Text and Title fields.

      8. Connect to the Facebook account associated with your business.

      9. Configure Email.

        1. Click Get Started. First, make sure the country you’re serving ads to is in the drop-down list.

        2. (Optional) Edit the subject lines and body of email. These emails are low-volume, high-impact emails that are sent to your site visitors on a triggered basis, and they’re complementary to newsletter campaigns you may be running elsewhere.

      10. Set up a conversion audience. This is important for your reporting, as well as for our technology to learn from your conversion data to find more customers.

Tracking your conversions is a vital part of understanding the value of running an online ad campaign. A conversion can be something such as a sale, a sign-up, or a form-fill.

        1. AdRoll uses URL patterns to create audiences. For example, you can enter /thanks to match any URL that ends with the string /thanks.

        2. If you have an order id, you can use wildcards (*) to match anything before or after a string. For example if you enter /thanks* it will match

        3. Wildcards are very flexible and can make setup easy. If you know your conversion URL is the only URL with the word “confirmation” in it, you can safely put *confirmation* as the rule and it will capture conversions properly.

      11. Enter payment information and click Launch.

After Launching Automated Campaigns

After launching, you’ll be able to see your campaigns under Automated Campaigns.

    1. We recommend giving your campaigns 2-4 weeks to reach their optimal performance before making any changes.

    2. Automated Campaigns, unlike other campaigns, share one budget. You should expect to see the individual budget levels of each of the campaigns change from day-to-day.
